Top 12 Signs of Heart Disease
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in America. It takes even more lives than all forms of cancer combined. But why is heart disease so deadly? Some attribute this problem to people refusing to seek help immediately when symptoms show up. However, figuring out what is a serious symptom or just a bad case of heartburn is a lot harder than it sounds. So here are 12 symptoms you should never ignore:
- Anxiety – Many times, extreme anxiety or an “impending sense of doom” preludes a heart attack.
- Chest Discomfort – Look for pain located at the center of your chest, particularly a little to the left of your breastbone.
- Cough – A persistent cough or wheezing can be a result of fluid accumulation in the lungs cause by heart failure,
- Dizziness – Heart attacks can cause lightheadedness or a loss of conscious.
- Fatigue – Unusual fatigue can lead up to heart attack or heart failure. This kind of fatigue is different from other fatigues because fatigue from heart problems is utter exhaustion while feeling unwell.
- Nausea or lack of appetite – People often feel sick to their stomach or throw up during a heart attack. Abdominal swelling associated with heart failure may cause a loss of appetite.
- Pains in other parts of the body – Before a heart attack, men feel pain in their left arm while women feel pain in both arms.
- Rapid or irregular pulse – Irregular or rapid heart beat with weakness, dizziness, or shortness of breath is a sign of a heart attack, heart failure, or an arrhythmia.
- Shortness of breath – Can lead up a heart attack or failure
- Sweating – A cold sweat is a common symptom of a heart attack
- Swelling – Heart failure can have fluids swell up (often in the feet, ankles, legs, or abdomen) as well as sudden weight gain and sometimes a loss of appetite.
- Weakness – Days leading up a heart attack, many people feel extremely weak for no apparent reason.
